Matt Treadway, Ed.S., is the former principal of Freedom Elementary School in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, where he led his staff in developing a collaborative culture centered on the three big ideas of a professional learning community.

Prior to his role of principal, Matt also served as an assistant principal and special education teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels. He is passionate about equity, data-driven practices, and schoolwide systems.

In spring 2020, Freedom Elementary achieved status as a Model PLC School—a first for the district, and only the second elementary school in the state to earn such a distinction. A schoolwide focus on collaboration, the four critical questions of a PLC, and systems designed to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum have helped guide Freedom toward sustained high academic achievement.

Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Western Kentucky University, a master’s degree in learning and behavior disorders from Campbellsville University, and an educational specialist degree in instructional leadership and superintendent certification from the University of the Cumberlands. He is currently finishing up his Ed.D. in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.
